Finally In Germany!!

Hi All!!!  Finally.... after wishing and hoping since 1971, to come to Germany to visit my friend Geli..... I have made it!!!  My son DJ and I arrived a little over a week ago and it has been an amazing visit.  DJ and I arrived in Frankfurt and were able to catch a train directly from the airport to Hamburg (5hr).  German trains are sooo nice. (It did take a bit to figure out how to flush the toilet... it was a button on the wall!)  DJ slept most of the way, but I enjoyed the view of all the greenery flying by!  We spent the night in a hostel in Hamburg... going to bed EARLY... about 7 pm after getting some dinner! (In an 8 bed room but the late arrivals were very considerate.) Being on the 6th floor we had a glorious view of the city and DJ was up early watching the sun rise over the city (5am!).  The earliest he's been up in awhile!  We had a great day walking around the shops and areas of Hamburg.  It is a great city and I am going to write to complain to the author of the tourist book on Germany that I bought - as it turned out - for some reason it did not include Hamburg!

After a day of looking about the city, it was a 4-5 hr ride to Usedom where Geli lives and it is a wonderful island by the Baltic Sea.  It reminds me so much of my younger years spent at my grandmother's house by the sea in New Jersey, although the architecture of the houses is much different... more elegant.. I just want to take pictures of the houses!   DJ has been enthralled by all the pastry/bread & bratwurst shops.   We even found little shops selling freshly caught fish and it was delicious!
*pardon mz tzping as the y & z kezs are reversed here!!

We have walked the beaches, picked up tiny shells, heard music on the beach at night, taken bike rides and even taken the train to Pennemunde to see the rocket museum.. AND been across the border into Poland for a few hours.   But...I should have brought a bigger sun hat, I think mz face is swollen from too much sun!  Today, we actually braved the sea and went in for a swim as the sea had warmed up (14 C) and it was wonderful.  Of course MUM got into the water first and it took DJ a bit longer!   Soon we will leave to see more of Germany (we have a Euro-rail pass for 6 days) and maybe even some of Amsterdam  (DJ wants to go there!)   I've been inspired by reading Geil's blog to actually begin this... hope you all enjoy it.

The Beginning

Hi Everyone,
The new college semester is beginning and soon I will have lots of readers, since I am going to require my students to check this out!  My thinking is that I will use this arena for all my classes so they can be exposed to what a Blog is and how it works and even I will learn about it as it progresses!
